Gifted 101: The 5 Things You Need to Know

Many people assume teaching gifted and talented learners is easy. They all make As and like school, don’t they? That’s one of many myths that fail to help teachers meet the needs of their high-ability students. Gifted and talented learners are just as varied as any other population of students. They need teachers who understand them and facilitate their growth, so they have opportunities to develop their talents. In this session, we’ll focus on five core ideas that will elevate your ability to serve gifted and talented learners.

Lynette Breedlove, Ph.D., directs The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University. She has served gifted students in a variety of school and district roles and teaches graduate courses in gifted education. She received her M.A. in Gifted and Talented Education from University of St. Thomas (Houston) and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University.
