Teaching Resilience to Support Educators of Gifted Students

How can we help students develop resilience to persevere in the face of setbacks? How do we help students pursue excellence without the burden of achieving perfection? In this session, you will learn lesson ideas for promoting resilience including guiding students to take intellectual risks, use self-regulation strategies, use positive psychology, develop self-awareness, and reflect and appropriately respond to criticism.

Emily Mofield, Ed.D., is an Associate Professor at Lipscomb University with experience as a gifted education teacher, district leader, and researcher. Emily is passionate about developing high-quality resources to equip teachers to support and challenge gifted and high-potential students. She has authored or co-authored a number of award-winning books, gifted curricula (with Vanderbilt PTY), and articles in the field.

Dr. Emily Parker Peters

Associate Dean, Associate Professor and the Director of Accreditation and Research

Lipscomb University

Dr. Parker Peters is the Associate Dean, Associate Professor and the Director of Accreditation and Research at Lipscomb University. She is a licensed psychologist and licensed school psychologist who has earned the designation as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Dr. Parker Peters specializes in researching and assessing gifted and twice-exceptional learners. Dr. Parker Peters has published numerous articles related to the social emotional needs of gifted learners. She also servded on the editorial board of the National Association for Gifted Children’s publication, Teaching for High Potential.

 Dr. Parker Peters has served on the board of the Tennessee Association for the Gifted for 5 years, and she has held positions with the National Association for Gifted Children for the past 6 years.  Closer to home, Dr. Peters served on the Tennessee State Task Force for Intellectually Gifted. She has been a presenter at district, state, and national conferences which include but are not limited to the Association for Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), Tennessee Association for the Gifted (TAG), and Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS).
